Calder Park Thunderdome

Calder Park Thunderdome is a purpose-built 1.801km quad-oval speedway near Melbourne, Australia, built by Bob Jane and modelled on Charlotte Motor Speedway, officially opened in August 1987, with 24° banking through turns 1-4. In 1987 the combined road-oval layout hosted a round of the Swann Series for Superbikes, the first Superbike event held at the venue; for safety riders used the flat apron instead of the banked turns, with cones marking the track edge on the front straight. The oval has not been used for racing since 1999. Calder Park's Australian Grand Prix, open to Formula One cars, was first held in 1980.
