Sandown Raceway
Springvale, Victoria, Australia
Sandown Raceway, southeast of Melbourne, opened in 1962 as a power circuit built around a horse racing course, noted for its long 899m and 910m front and back straights. The current National layout runs 3.104 km with 13 turns. It hosted the Australian motorcycle Grand Prix in 1976, and bikes used the infield section until about 2001 after the fast turns 6-9 esses, taken near 200 km/h, were judged too dangerous; the circuit continued to host the Australian Superbike Championship.
