Circuit Jules Tacheny Mettet
Mettet, Namur, Belgium
Circuit Jules Tacheny Mettet, near Charleroi in Wallonia, traces its motorcycle heritage to the 1920s street circuit that hosted the Grand Prix Entre Sambre et Meuse from 1928, first won by Albert Breslau. Revived after World War II, the race saw Jules Tacheny take the Senior class in 1946 and John Surtees win both 350cc and 500cc classes in 1958. From 1972 to 1979 the circuit staged the Mettet 1000km motorcycle endurance race, dominated by four-time winner Jean-Claude Chemarin. The current 2.310km permanent circuit opened in 2010 and was initially used mainly by motorcycle racers.
