Opened in 1922 near Milan and built by the Milan Automobile Club's SIAS, Monza is the oldest permanent circuit in mainland Europe. Grand Prix motorcycle racing ran there regularly until 1973, when fatal crashes killed Renzo Pasolini and Jarno Saarinen, keeping bikes away until 1981. It later hosted Superbike World Championship rounds; Max Biaggi set the fastest motorcycle lap on an Aprilia RSV4 in 2010-2011. The current 5.793 km layout has six corner complexes: the first two chicanes, the two Lesmos, the Ascari complex, and the Parabolica. Formula One first raced there in 1949.
