Fuji Speedway Short
Oyama, Shizuoka, Japan
Fuji Speedway opened in January 1966 as a road course in the foothills of Mount Fuji, after early plans for an American-style superspeedway were reworked into a European-style layout with input from retired F1 driver Stirling Moss. The circuit hosted the Japanese motorcycle Grand Prix in 1966 and 1967 as the final round of the FIM Road Racing World Championship; the 1967 race ran on a shorter 4.3 km configuration after safety concerns over the original banked section led Honda to skip the 1966 event. Fuji also staged Formula One's first Japanese Grand Prix in 1976.
