Suzuka East is a 2.243 km configuration of the Suzuka International Racing Course, designed by John Hugenholtz and built as a Honda test track opened in 1962. The layout uses the pit straight and esses before rejoining the main circuit near the Casio triangle chicane. The full Suzuka circuit hosted the Japanese motorcycle Grand Prix from 1987 to 1998 and again from 2000 to 2003, and has held the Suzuka 8 Hours motorcycle endurance race every year since 1978 except 2005. Suzuka first hosted the Formula One Japanese Grand Prix in 1987.
