Phakisa Freeway
Welkom, Free State, South Africa
Phakisa Freeway, between Welkom and Odendaalsrus, South Africa, opened in 1999 with a 4.242 km road course alongside a separate 2.414 km banked oval. The road layout uses the oval's pit lane as its back straight and crosses the oval's backstretch twice. The circuit hosted the South African motorcycle Grand Prix on the MotoGP calendar from 1999 to 2004. The Superbike World Championship planned a 2014 round here but never raced due to homologation issues, and since 2014 the venue has held only national-level events.
