Brands Hatch originated as farmland near West Kingsdown, Kent, first used by cyclists in 1926, with motorcyclists taking up racing there within a few years on a short anticlockwise course. Four local motorcycle clubs staged the first organised meeting in 1932, and a 1947 grasstrack event held there became the first motorcycle race televised on British TV. Resurfaced in 1950 for car and motorcycle road racing, the circuit's Grand Prix layout measures 2.433 mi (3.916 km) and now hosts limited high-profile meetings including the British Superbike Championship. It first held the British Grand Prix in 1964.
