Elvington, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Elvington Airfield Motorsport occupies the runways of the former RAF Elvington station near York. Motorcycle road racing began here in June 1970 under the Auto 66 Club, with a second meeting that September; the following season the events gained National status and drew more than 400 riders, including future stars Mick Grant and Barry Sheene. In October 1969, Ray Pickrell used a sprint meeting at the site to set a national 750cc flying quarter-mile record of 144.69 mph on a Dunstall Norton. The circuit remains a popular venue for motorcycle racing today.
