Lydden Hill Race Circuit
Lydden, Kent, United Kingdom
Lydden Hill Race Circuit was founded in 1955 by Bill Chesson with help from the Astra Motor Club, and from 1957 hosted grass-track motorcycle racing. In 1962 Chesson laid tarmac to enable motorcycle and car road racing, but the tarmac ran out at Devil's Elbow, leaving Britain's shortest road racing circuit. Motorcycle racing remains part of its regular program, supported by clubs including the Vintage Motorcycle Racing Club and Classic Racing Motorcycle Club. In 1986 Chesson refused to install Armco barriers, citing danger to motorcycle racers, and put the circuit up for sale as a result.
