Daytona International Speedway opened in 1959, built by NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. with banking engineered by Charles Moneypenny. The tri-oval features 31° banking in its turns. Motorcycle racing runs on a modified road course for the Daytona 200, using a tighter Pedro Rodríguez Hairpin, and on a separate 2.950 mi motorcycle-specific road course built in 2005 that bypasses the steeply banked oval turns one and two. The track has hosted AMA Supercross Championship rounds since 1971 and AMA Grand National flat-track racing from 2010 to 2016. Twelve motorcyclists have died in on-track incidents.
